Workshop Staff Biographies

 

Mary Lin-hua Wu, Workshop Director
Mary has served as Workshop Director for the International Workshops since 1999. In 2000 and 2001, she chaired conflict resolution symposiums at Stanford University concerning the Horn of Africa region. Mary received her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Stanford in 1993 and also studied at the Free University in Berlin, Germany. In 1997, she received her Juris Doctoris from Stanford Law School, where she was an editor of the Stanford Law Review. Before joining CSDR, Mary worked as a corporate securities lawyer for a major Silicon Valley law firm. She is a member of the California State Bar and speaks German and Mandarin.
 
Sascha Benjamin Cohen
Focusing in recent years on internet technologies and systems implementation, Sascha has worked as an independent technology consultant for a number of national and local organizations. From 1999-2001 he was the Director of Product Development and interim CTO for THAP!, a San Francisco Bay Area occupational health management group. There he led a team of 17 technologists in the design, architecture and implementation of web-enabled enterprise systems. Sascha received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a Master of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a published author and poet and speaks French, Hebrew, and Arabic.
 
Ania Garlitski
Ania is an Internal Medicine resident at Tufts University New England Medical Center, and she will pursue a fellowship in Cardiology. Her current research interest is in the prognostic value of the primary electrophysiologic study. In 1995 she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Stanford University. She received her Doctor of Medicine in 2000 from the University of Vermont, where she was actively involved in a refugee resettlement program. Ania previously served as a Workshop Staff member in Warsaw, Poland, and Dresden, Germany. She is a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and a Clinical Associate at Tufts University.
 
Y. Jean Lee
Jean is a freelance graphic designer and photographer living in Brooklyn, New York. She received her Bachelor of Arts in 1993 from Stanford University, where she majored in Urban Studies with a concentration on Architecture and Design. After graduation, she worked in San Francisco as a designer at an architectural firm and as a visual display and graphics designer. Since 1995, Jean has worked as a creative director and designer in Shanghai and New York City, specializing in corporate graphics, branding and marketing, as well as product development. She speaks French, Mandarin and Taiwanese.
 
Britta Schultheis
Britta is a German national and received her Diplom-Kauffrau degree from the University of Lüneburg in Germany in 1999. From 1995-1996, she studied at Angelo State University in Texas, where she obtained with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. After receiving her degrees, Britta worked for Arthur Andersen, Germany in the tax and audit group. Currently, she serves as Finance Manager for SKP Recycling GmbH/Cleanaway in Hamburg, Germany. Britta speaks English and German.
 
Manon Van der Horden
Manon is a consultant in Quebec City, Canada for International Conferences. For 15 years she worked as Administrative/Executive Assistant at NATO Headquarters for the Canadian Military Representative. In 1999, she oversaw Protocol for the NATO Defence Ministerial in Toronto. In 2001, Manon acted as Deputy Director Protocol/Liaison for the Summit of the Americas, and last October organized a NATO Medical Conference in Quebec City. After this Workshop, Manon will be managing protocol for the NATO/Russia Summit in Rome, as well as the NATO Summit in Prague this coming November. This is her 8th consecutive year with this Workshop. She speaks French and German.
 
Shishir Verma
Shishir received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1989, and afterwards joined General Motors Corporation to work in a variety of engineering functions in several divisions. During this time, he received a fully funded fellowship to complete a Masters of Science degree in Engineering from Stanford University. Prior to joining the Technology Investment Banking Group at Deutsche Bank in San Francisco, Shishir received his Masters of Business Administration from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago and worked for Ernst & Young LLP. Shishir was born in India and speaks Hindi.
 
Eugene Whitlock
Eugene received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Stanford University in 1992 and also studied at the University of Salamanca in Spain. After Stanford, Eugene attended the University of Michigan Law School and graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctoris degree in 1995. While in law school, Eugene was an associate editor of the Michigan Law Review and studied at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Eugene worked for the law firm of Davis, Polk & Wardwell in New York, Japan, and California and Deutsche Bank’s technology investment banking group in San Francisco. Eugene speaks Spanish.
